The Future of Healthcare and Technology: BeHub’s Brian Halse Joins THE LEAD ICON PODCAST

In the first episode of THE LEAD ICON podcast, our host and Founder of The Lead Icon,  Dijana Dragomirovic, sits down with Brian Halse, CEO and Co-Founder, Executive Chair of BeHub—a healthcare software startup with roots in the Macquarie University incubator in Sydney. In this interview, Brian shares the journey of BeHub, its vision for supporting clinicians, and some bold predictions for the future of healthcare.

A New Approach to Clinician Support

BeHub was born out of the need to bridge a crucial gap in healthcare: providing clinicians, especially those in rural areas, with the latest information on medical devices. Brian explains that while much of the industry focuses on procurement and cost-cutting, BeHub prioritises training and knowledge-sharing for the people on the front lines. "The health industry is somewhat broken," he notes. Dijana echoes this, highlighting BeHub's role in tackling issues that traditional healthcare systems haven't addressed. By making medical device training more accessible, BeHub hopes to ease clinicians’ workloads and improve patient safety.

AI, Blockchain, and the Next Wave of Healthcare Innovation

The conversation dives into the future of healthcare technology. Brian believes that AI and blockchain could unlock new possibilities for both patient care and clinician support. While AI might bring better diagnostic tools, Brian stresses the need for checks and balances, saying that “a second check will always be necessary.” Blockchain, meanwhile, offers exciting potential for managing clinician credentials and training records securely. Dijana adds, "The healthcare system needs to keep pace with technology, and BeHub is helping lead that change."

Overcoming the Challenges of Growing a Startup

Brian’s experience as a founder hasn’t been without its hurdles. Securing funding and managing bureaucracy are familiar struggles, and he recalls an early attempt at introducing a barcode system for healthcare tracking. It didn’t take off as planned, but it taught him a valuable lesson about simplicity in healthcare tech. Brian suggests that “governments could be more supportive by acting like venture capitalists,” an idea that resonates with Dijana, who emphasises the need for user-centered design and adaptable solutions.

Looking Ahead to 2025: Streamlined, Safer Healthcare

The episode wraps up with Brian and Dijana’s predictions for healthcare in 2025. Brian envisions a system where technology fits seamlessly into clinicians’ daily routines, making healthcare more efficient, especially in underserved areas. Dijana believes that early intervention and preventive care will be critical as healthcare systems strive to alleviate clinician burnout and enhance patient safety.

In a healthcare landscape often resistant to change, BeHub’s story shows how innovation can thrive by focusing on simple, effective solutions.
